Jason Starkey was born on August 19, 1967 in London, England, in the "Summer of Love" to Richard and Maureen Starkey.
His parents divorced when he was 7 years old, his mother, Maureen, had custody of Jay, his older brother Zak and younger sister Lee with Richie having visitation rights.
Jason mostly stayed out of the public eye- but in the 1980s he was arrested for drug possession twice and stealing a car radio.
For a brief time, he was in a band with his brother, playing drums for Musty Jack Sponge and the Exploding Nudists. Jason continued to drum for various bands. In the mid 1980's he was with Buddy Curtis and the Grasshoppers.
On December 30, 1994, Jason was at his mother's side with his family when Maureen died from complications of leukemia.
He was then part of the band The People's Friend and the Empire of Sponge (with former members from The People's Friend) who released a CD single in January of 2003. In 2003 they appear in and around London and Brighton.
